Shoyu Poke
Last Sunday, my hubby had an absolute craving for raw fish. It was his turn to do our weekly grocery, when he decided to buy some fresh ahi (tuna to you folks out there) and make Shoyu Poke (pronounced as sho-you poh-kay).
He didn't tell me the exact portions, but I do know that he used the following ingredients:
Ahi (tuna steak cut into cubes)
Onions
Green onions
Shoyu (soy sauce)
Sesame Seed Oil
Chili flakes
Seaweed
Hawaiian Salt (or coarse sea salt)
Serve chilled.
We shared this little appetizer over some iced cold beer, relishing the Sunday we had to ourselves. It was better than any sushi or sashimi I ever had. The combination of flavors and textures made me give my hubby the honorary Gastronomical Genius Award for the day! Whoohoow! This is possibly one of the best all-time appetizers anyone can have on a hot summer day. I wonder why he waited so long to share this recipe with me. So much for the Aloha spirit. Kidding!! Hope he's reading this so he can "surprise" me again tomorrow.

Seven Days in Sunny June
Now this music video shouts summer. Relaxed, fun and fashionable. My bikinis fit in this video don't you think?
*update* Okay so you just clicked on it and the video's no longer available. Try clicking on this instead. I wonder what's so wrong with embedding the video? Hmmm.... Anyways...
Released back in 2005 as part of the Dynamite album, this Jamiroquai hit still makes me sing and dance along to it. Sing along with me! I think I played this song in my iPod 20 times today....
The pebbles you've arranged
In the sand they're strange
They speak to me like constellations as we lie here
There's a magic I can't hold
Your smile of honey gold
And that you never seem to be in short supply of
CHORUS:
Oooh... so baby let's get it on
Drinking wine and killing time sitting in the summer sun
You know, I wanted you so long
So why'd you have to drop that bomb on me
Lazy days, crazy doll
You said we been friends too long
Seven days in sunny june
Were long enough to bloom
The flowers on the summer dress you wore in spring
The way we laughed as one
And then you dropped the bomb
That I know you too long for us to have a thing
REPEAT CHORUS (2X)
Could it be this, the starfish in your eyes
Tell our silent wings, you fly away on
Seven days in sunny june
Were long enough to bloom
The flowers on that sunbeam dress you wore in spring
We laughed as one, why'd you drop that bomb on me
REPEAT CHORUS
Could it be this...
The honeysuckle guess you seem to show me
Could it be this...
For seven days in june I wasn't lonely
Could it be this...
You never gave me time to say I love you
Could it be this...
I know you don't believe me, but it's so true
Don't walk away from me girl
I read the stories in your eyes
